Removing Isolated Zeroes by Homotopy
Suppose that the inverse image of the zero vector by a continuous map f : R → R has an isolated point P . The existence of a continuous map g which approximates f but is nonvanishing near P is equivalent to a topological property we call “locally inessential,” generalizing the notion of index zero for vector fields, the q = n case. For dimensions n, q where πn−1(Sq−1) is trivial, every isolated...
متن کاملFinding Zeroes of Maps: Homotopy Methods That Are Constructive With Probability One*
We illustrate that most existence theorems using degree theory are in principle relatively constructive. The first one presented here is the Brouwer Fixed Point Theorem. Our method is "constructive with probability one" and can be implemented by computer. Other existence theorems are also proved by the same method. The approach is based on a transversality theorem.

متن کاملFat Fisher Zeroes
We show that it is possible to determine the locus of Fisher zeroes in the thermodynamic limit for the Ising model on planar (“fat”) φ random graphs and their dual quadrangulations by matching up the real part of the high and low temperature branches of the expression for the free energy. The form of this expression for the free energy also means that series expansion results for the zeroes may...
متن کاملThin Fisher Zeroes
Biskup et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 84 (2000) 4794] have recently suggested that the loci of partition function zeroes can profitably be regarded as phase boundaries in the complex temperature or field planes. We obtain the Fisher zeroes for Ising and Potts models on non-planar (“thin”) regular random graphs using this approach, and note that the locus of Fisher zeroes on a Bethe lattice is identic...
